Minimal wage, which students could count for is 7.25 dollars per hour. The average wage is 7-9 dollars per hour. Obviously, employers offer 40 working hours per week with 2 day offs. Day offs could be Sunday and Saturday or 2 other days as well. Most employers give the opportunity to work more than 40 hours per week, and in this case pay all the over 40 hours per week with wage multiplied for 1.5 (overtime rate). Also you need to know, that working overtime hours is not compulsory, they can do that only if they want, and this condition is always written in the job-offer.

Payment rate per hour could be lower than 6 dollars per hour ($2-$3), but in this case the position suggests receiving tips. And obviously, that gives very good result. For example, experienced waiter can get up to $150-$200 per shift. Always tips are 10%-15% from the amount of order and could be included in the bill or not, in this case customer tips you with the amount considered adequate by him. Also apart from the wage, you can be offered additional free housing and/or food. Sometimes it is better to be paid $7.25 per hour and have free room and food 3 times a day, than to be paid $9 per hour and rent a room and pay for food on your own. All these details about job in USA – ability to receive tips, conditions of housing, free food, number of hours per week, wage, your position and period of employment should be stated in the Job-offer.

Sometime happens that you receive your salary in cash (for example tipped positions). In average, students make $350-$600 per week.
